OBJECTIVE: To explore the best method of constipation treatment by studying the clinical data of constipation cases. METHODS: The cases were taken from constipation cases admitted to our hospital from March 2003 to May 2006, and the types of constipation, treatment methods, treatment effects and related factors were analyzed. Results: The three types of constipation, namely, outlet obstruction type constipation, slow transmission type constipation and mixed type constipation, all had a history of high frequency of anal common disease; the surgical treatment of outlet obstruction type constipation had a cure rate of 30%, an improvement rate of 70%, and an overall effective rate of 100%, while the effective rates of sub-total colon resection for slow transmission type constipation and mixed type constipation were 50% and 67%, respectively, and there were serious complications. The total effective rate of surgery for these two types of constipation against anal common disease was 80% and 100% respectively, and there were no obvious complications. Conclusion: Attention should be paid to the treatment of common anal diseases, and the surgical treatment of constipation should be individualized, avoiding more traumatic surgery.
