The Department of Orthopedics at Lee Wai Lee Hospital successfully performed a hemangioma resection and autologous vascular graft for a patient with a giant hemangioma of the femoral artery. After the surgery, the patient recovered well and was discharged from the hospital recently. The patient was a 31-year-old female patient who underwent the surgery. She came to the orthopedic clinic of Lee Wai Lee Hospital on May 8 because she had suffered from a “pulsating mass on the right lateral knee” for 3 years, and was found to have a mass of 5×5 square centimeters on the right lateral knee. After an ultrasound examination, the doctor diagnosed a “giant hemangioma of the right femoral artery”. The hemangioma seemed to be a time bomb, and if it was not eliminated by surgery in time, it could easily cause two possibilities: first, the formation of thrombus, which could lead to necrosis and amputation of the distal limb; second, hemangioma rupture and hemorrhage. Therefore, early surgery was necessary to eliminate the hidden danger. Thus, the patient was admitted to the orthopedic ward in time. After adequate preoperative preparation, the patient was admitted to the operating room in the morning of May 15. With the assistance of Dr. Lu Xuhui and Dr. Xu Quanfang, Dr. Shen Wenge, the chief surgeon, performed “right femoral artery giant hemangioma resection and autologous vascular grafting” for the patient. The operation lasted for 3 hours and was a complete success. After the operation, Doppler showed that the grafted vessel was open. According to Dr. Shen, this type of patient used to be transferred to large hospitals in Shanghai and Hangzhou for treatment, but the success of this operation will save the patient from traveling to foreign countries for medical treatment.
