Osteoporosis, do not ignore!

Osteoporosis is a prevalent disease among the elderly nowadays, mainly manifesting as a decrease in bone mass, reduced bone density and increased bone fragility. Osteoporosis is the most important factor leading to fractures in middle-aged and elderly people, and because of their poor physical condition and underlying diseases, fractures, once they occur, will have serious consequences. In particular, fractures of the proximal femur (femoral neck fracture, intertrochanteric fracture, etc.) often occur with more bleeding, and conservative treatment requires long-term strict bed rest, with great risk of complications such as decubitus ulcers and pneumonia, so surgery is mostly required. The current treatment of osteoporosis in China is very informal, for one thing, most osteoporosis patients do not know enough about the risks of osteoporosis and do not undergo reasonable treatment; for another thing, many orthopedic surgeons do not recommend patients to undergo active anti-osteoporosis treatment after discovering that they have osteoporosis. Under such a premise of serious neglect of osteoporosis, the incidence of osteoporotic fractures in the elderly remains high, which brings a huge economic burden to families and society. Many people still have a misconception that frequent and milk and calcium supplementation can prevent osteoporosis, but osteoporosis is a systemic degenerative disease, closely related to the endocrine system and the nervous system and other systems in the body, and the preventive effect of calcium supplementation on osteoporosis is actually negligible. Now the international medical consensus for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis is still based on anti-osteoporosis drugs, mainly diphosphates, calcitonin, vitamin K2, parathyroid hormone and so on. Patients with osteoporosis are recommended to actively take anti-osteoporosis drugs for treatment to prevent fractures, and must not care about the current cost of medicine and end up having to suffer pain after fracture while bearing the cost of expensive surgery.
