What is the meaning of small cervical cysts

Small cervical cysts refer to glandular cysts of the cervix, called nuchal cysts. In the process of replacing the columnar epithelium in the cervical duct by the squamous epithelium of the cervix within the cervical transition zone, the new squamous epithelium covers the mouth of the cervical duct or penetrates deeper into the duct, blocking it and causing obstruction of the drainage of secretions from the glands in the cervical duct, resulting in the formation of small cysts. Local injury to the cervix or chronic inflammation of the cervix may also narrow the opening of the glandular ducts, leading to the formation of glandular cysts in the cervix. Most cervical glandular cysts are physiologic changes and therefore usually do not require treatment. Superficial cervical glandular cysts are easier to diagnose when single or multiple small greenish-white vesicles can be seen protruding from the surface of the cervix during examination. However, in deep cervical glandular cysts, there are no abnormalities on the surface of the cervix, and they only appear as cervical hypertrophy, which often requires a gynecologic ultrasound to see the small cervical cysts.
