Female patients with pleural effusion should have their gynecology checked

Female patients with pleural effusion should be investigated for gynecological diseases. Gynecologic tumors can cause pleural effusions. Magee’s syndrome meig’s syn. is a benign gynecologic tumor with thoraco-abdominal fluid. Usually 2 weeks after resection of the tumor, the pleural ascites can subside on its own. Although the clinical presentation is heavy, somewhat like advanced cirrhosis, the prognosis is good. Pseudo meig syndrome (PMS) is a gynecologic disease of pelvic tumor, a malignant neoplasm with ascites and thoracic fluid. PMS is more common in middle-aged and older women over 40 years of age, but less common in those over 60 years of age; the mechanism of thoracic and ascites is thought to be torsion or compression of the blood vessels of the tumor, or increased permeability of the tumor itself.
