Efficacy of the urethral plate longitudinal coiling method versus the covered island flap method in the treatment of hypospadias

OBJECTIVE: To summarize the effectiveness of urethroplasty using the urethral plate longitudinal coiled tube method (snodgrass) and the onlay island tlap method in the treatment of hypospadias and to compare their efficacy. Methods: Seventy patients with hypospadias were treated by urethral plate longitudinal coiling method and onlay island flap urethroplasty. 40 patients were treated by urethral plate longitudinal coiling method and 30 patients were treated by onlay island flap urethroplasty. Results: Urethroplasty by longitudinal coiling of the urethral plate was successful in 36 cases with a success rate of 90%; 3 cases of urethral fistula and 1 case of urethral stricture occurred after surgery. The success rate of urethroplasty with island flap was 90% in 27 cases, and urethral fistula occurred in 3 cases. Conclusion: The urethroplasty by longitudinal coil of urethral plate and the urethroplasty by covered island flap can be used for the treatment of hypospadias of the coronal groove of the head of the penis, the body of the penis, and the scrotum of the penis, and the urethroplasty by longitudinal coil of urethral plate is simpler and easy to promote.
