Meet the children of the autism stars

“Children of the stars” live in their own world just like the stars in the sky. They are not deaf, but they are deaf to sounds; they are not blind, but they are blind to people and things around them; they are not dumb, but they do not know how to speak. Some people say that they are geniuses, because Einstein, Van Gogh, Newton and many other outstanding geniuses had strange behaviors during their lifetime, and judging by modern medical methods, they probably suffer from autism. Some people also say that they are alien, living only in their own space, like an alien, a heavenly visitor, out of step with the world. From a medical perspective, autism is due to neurodevelopmental insufficiency caused by multiple tiny genetic variants, resulting in innate behavioral abnormalities that can usually be detected by parents by age 3. The American Psychiatric Association defines children with autism as having the following three characteristics: developmental impairments in social skills; developmental impairments in communication skills; and narrow, repetitive, and stereotypical behaviors, interests, and activities. Simply put, they live in a world of their own and do not respond to everything around them. Some children will have intellectual disabilities, but most have normal intelligence. When you get up close and personal with an autistic child, you will notice that these children have difficulty concentrating, their eyes drift, never look you in the eye, have no eye-to-eye gaze with people, and have difficulty achieving communication with you. Because of their inability to understand their relationship with others and their difficulty in appreciating the emotions and feelings of others, they ignore and do not look at whatever you say or do. They may clap their hands, look at their hands, sway, turn in a circle and several other actions repeatedly, go out to take a determined route, walk with their hands touching the wall to move forward, play in a monotonous and repetitive way, lack change and resist any change. Once the slightest change in daily life occurs, they will strongly resist until the original pattern and order is restored. Language and communication disorders, which is the first point in the diagnosis of autism. It is also often the main problem that children with autism are brought to the hospital for help. Parents may say that the child is slow to speak and may be two or three years old and still not be able to call his father or mother. Mom. They can’t say anything. Some children can recite the Three Character Classic and Tang poems very well. But in life, they call “Dad, Mom, I want to drink water”. These are very simple words that children should be able to say when they are about two years old, but children with autism do not. When it comes to communication and expressing his needs, he is very slow. Although he may be able to memorize some things, they are not really useful. Later on, almost half of our children slowly became verbal, and some of them grew up to be verbal. In addition, although he has language, he is not able to talk to others appropriately. It is often found that he only talks about his favorite subject. The second characteristic is social impairment. From a child’s early years, he rarely makes eye contact with others. However, in autistic children, the interpersonal disorder is that they seem to have no interest in children. He would rather lie on the floor alone and look at his car than play with children. Even if the kindergarten teacher deliberately arranges for him to play with children, he may run away with them and go back to the corner to do his own work. He doesn’t get along with others and has no interest in children. A little older, the average child begins to show off his things: “Look at the track car my dad bought me yesterday, the airplane ….” Something like this is a way to show off or to share some toys or feelings. But this part of the autistic child is not there either and will not share. As they get older, children will know how others feel and what others need. They are more sympathetic and more empathetic. But in autistic children, this part of the child’s ability is difficult to come out. They feel less empathetic and less aware of what others are thinking. What do other people need? This is how the child’s interpersonal difficulties are manifested from childhood to adulthood. The third characteristic is some stubborn behavior, because behavior refers to the child’s repeated and mechanical behavior or action. There are also repetitive and mechanical activities and interests, or fixed habits, or special ways of playing with toys. For example, children with autism often like to play spin games when they are young, one type is to spin by themselves and go around in circles. Another kind is to watch the toy spinning, or watch the fan spinning, that is, to be fascinated by it. So playing with round things that spin is often a very early behavior in children with autism. This is a kind of stubborn behavior. Some children have fixed habits, such as sleeping in a fixed place, or covering that quilt, or requiring that pillow before they can sleep. He has to go to sleep only if his mom or dad drives or rides a car or takes him out for a ride, or else he doesn’t have to talk about it. It always seems like there’s something fixed that he can’t take the next step without doing. I’ve heard that one of the more disturbing habits is to go up the stairs, originally the family lived on the second floor, children do not take the elevator have to climb the stairs. Later moved to the fifth floor, as well as to climb the stairs. This causes great distress at home. I hope this habit can be changed, often unfortunately, this stubborn behavior conversion, deliberately trying to change his time often ineffective. But he may disappear for a period of time this behavior, replaced by another stubborn behavior out, this is the third characteristic. According to Dr. Grace of North Carolina Central University, the causes of autism may be related to exposure to drugs, infections, heavy metals, environmental toxins, and genetic factors, etc. No drugs have been found to cure autism. Early detection, early treatment, early intervention and early start of rehabilitation is the most effective method at present, and if progress is smooth, it can enable children with autism to grow up to take care of themselves and even have the ability of genius in some aspects.
