Misconceptions of gout treatment

Please do not take uric acid-lowering drugs immediately during an acute attack of gout. Gout is a common metabolic disease seen in outpatient clinics. When an acute attack occurs, the joints are red, swollen and painful, and uric acid is usually elevated. Unbeknownst to them, the decrease in uric acid in the blood increases the release of uric acid originally deposited in the joints, leading to an increased local inflammatory response and making the symptoms more pronounced. Therefore, in the acute phase of gouty arthritis, anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs should be taken first, followed by uric acid-lowering drugs.
