Cervical cancer is generally divided into 4 stages: stage I refers to cancer of the cervix confined to the cervix; stage II generally refers to cancer that has invaded and exceeded the uterus but has not yet spread to the lower 1/3 of the vagina or has not yet reached the pelvic wall. Stage III refers to cancer that has involved the lower 1/3 of the vagina or has expanded to the pelvic wall, or has caused hydronephrosis or non-functional kidney, or has involved the pelvis or lymph nodes next to the abdominal aorta; Stage IV refers to cancer that has spread beyond the true pelvis, or has involved the bladder or rectal mucosa, which is advanced.
