What are the precautions for magnetic resonance imaging?

  I. Patient safety matters
  (A) Contraindications
1, the body is equipped with a cardiac pacemaker and neurostimulator is strictly prohibited from scanning, and avoid entering within the 5 Gauss line (i.e. between magnets).
2, the body has aneurysm clips, metal foreign body in the eye should be prohibited from scanning.
3, patients with high fever should be prohibited from scanning.
  (ii) Relative contraindications
1, such as metal foreign body (dentures, contraceptive ring, metal implants, postoperative metal clips, etc.) located in the scanning range, should be carefully scanned to prevent metal movement or heat generation caused by patient injury, metal objects can also produce artifacts and prevent diagnosis. If scanning other parts, attention should also be paid to whether the patient has discomfort.
2, coma, confusion, mental abnormalities, seizure-prone or cardiac arrest, serious trauma, claustrophobic patients, young children and uncooperative patients should be scanned with caution, under the supervision of a doctor or family members.
  (3) Pregnant women and infants should obtain the doctor’s consent before scanning.
  (iii) Scanning precautions
1, the patient must remove all metal objects, preferably changing clothes, so as to avoid metal objects being sucked into the magnet and affecting the magnetic field uniformity, or even injuring the patient.
2, the scanning process of the patient’s body (skin) do not directly touch the inner wall of the magnet and various wires to prevent patient burns.
3, tattoos (eyebrow tattoo), cosmetics, hair dye, etc. should be removed in advance, because they may cause burns.
4.Patients should bring earplugs to prevent hearing damage.
  5.Input the patient’s weight accurately.
6.When using planar echo imaging EPI scan, pay attention to whether the patient has symptoms of peripheral nerve irritation. If the patient has symptoms such as tingling sensation in the extremities and muscle twitching, the EPI scan should be stopped immediately and other pulse sequence scans should be used instead.
  7. When scanning with EPI, the patient’s hands should not be crossed together, and the hands should not be in direct contact with the skin of other parts of the body, which can reduce the appearance of peripheral nerve irritation symptoms.
  Staff safety matters
  1. All staff members in the MRI room must be familiar with and comply with the various safety matters in the room.
2.All kinds of personnel who need to enter the magnet room should remove all metal and magnetic objects.
3.When the operator positions the patient, it is better to stand facing the door to prevent the entry of unrelated personnel.
  Third, equipment safety matters
1, all kinds of large metal objects are strictly prohibited to enter the magnet room, such as iron carts, beds, stretchers, oxygen bottles, non-magnetic resonance high-pressure syringes, etc., to prevent serious equipment damage, and even endanger personal safety.
2, a variety of coil wire, ECG gating wire can not be folded, into the tab, and do not directly contact the patient’s skin and the inner wall of the magnet.
3, cardiac gating can not be used with a variety of surface coils.
4, all kinds of rescue equipment should not be brought into the magnet.
Fourth, the emergency switch and monitoring device
Emergency Stop key: used for emergencies between magnets (such as fire, etc.).
Located above the keyboard and the red button on both sides of the magnet, press to cut off the power between the magnets. At this time the scan bed can be manually pulled out by the release key.
Emergency Rundown button: the manual “Quench” device. It is located in the magnet room. It should only be used if the patient’s life is in danger due to the magnetic force of the magnets, in order to avoid significant financial losses.
  Oxygen monitor.
  Patient alarm handle.
  V. Emergency situations and their handling
  (A) patient emergency.
  1.Emergency Stop.
2.Remove the patient from the scanning room, and notify the rescue personnel if necessary.
  (B) Equipment emergencies: 1.
1, signs of loss of super and handling methods.
Loud abnormal noise, such as “hissing” sound.
White fog in the magnet room.
Monitor screen tilt or color change.
  Emergency Stop key.
Tell the patient to calm down and cooperate through the microphone.
  Evacuate the patient quickly.
  Notify GE engineer.
2.Other emergencies: such as fire, abnormal noise, external hazards, etc.
  Emergency Stop key
  Evacuate the patient quickly.
  Turn off the machine.
