Since damage to the oral mucosa is the first symptom in patients with pemphigus, patients presenting with painful vesicles in the oral cavity will consult the stomatology department. If anti-infective treatment is not effective when given, dermatology needs to be consulted for the possibility of autoimmune-associated pemphigus.
