Gout Disease Overview

It is often said that “beer and seafood is better than living God”, but it is not beautiful at all when it comes to joint pain. How to eat when you have gout? Here to send you a menu for the gout crowd.
  1, what is gout
Gout is a disorder of purine metabolism in the body, uric acid metabolism disorders caused by high concentrations of uric acid in the blood, uric acid salts in the joints, cartilage, synovial and periosteal tissue precipitation formation of crystals, thus causing non-infectious inflammation, also known as gouty arthritis.
  2.General characteristics of gout population
  Age and gender
Generally middle-aged men around 40 years old and post-menopausal women, but the age of patients is getting younger in recent years.
  Common symptoms
The first attack of gout is often a sudden and severe pain at night or early in the morning. Most people experience redness, swelling, heat and pain at the base of the bunions, while others experience skin flaking and itching.
The sudden pain can almost make a person jump right out of bed, and generally this pain peaks within 24 hours and then gradually subsides.
In addition to the base of the bunions, pain may also occur in the soles of the feet, ankles, heels, knees, wrists, fingers, elbows, etc., with the lower extremities being more common than the upper extremities.
  Progression of the disease
After the first onset of pain, the joint will comfortably spend up to several months to years saying goodbye to the pain. Don’t think that gout is cured! It just enters the flare-remission-flare cycle.
The longer you have the disease, the more frequent the attacks, the longer the pain, the slower the remission, and the more joints that are damaged.
As the disease progresses to a later stage, gout stones, kidney and cardiovascular system damage may occur. If the gout stones seriously affect the function of the joints, the only way to remove the crystals in the joints is through surgery, or simply replace the entire joint.
3.What is the difference with other arthritis
  Rheumatoid arthritis
It usually occurs in young and middle-aged women, who usually wake up in the morning with stiff joints and difficulty moving.
  Septic arthritis
It is usually accompanied by fever, chills and other obvious symptoms of infection, and no uric acid crystals can be detected in the synovial fluid of the joints.
  Pseudogout
It is more common in the elderly population who are on replacement therapy with thyroxine, more often in women than men, and it occurs mainly in the knee joints.
  Psoriatic arthritis
Most people can see a psoriasis-like rash on their bodies, and only about 10% of patients have a rash that occurs later than arthritis.
4.How to eat without pain from gout
  Overall principle
  Starch/fruit > grains > green leafy vegetables > legumes/nuts > fish/meat > offal.
Diet is not a substitute for medication and surgery. Gout arthritis can cause serious damage to the joints when it is advanced and must be treated with surgery.
