Agaricus blazei is made from animal donkey skin, which is sweet, flat and enters the lung, liver and kidney meridians. It nourishes Yin and moistens dryness, tonifies blood and stops bleeding, nourishes blood and calms the fetus. It is the main remedy for blood deficiency, dizziness and palpitation. It can also be applied to blood vomiting, blood in stool, blood leakage, cough with Yin deficiency, sleeplessness and fever with Yin deficiency. In ancient times, there were famous formulas with Agaricus as the main medicine, such as Pigling Tang and Huang Lian Agaricus Tang. Pig Ling Tang (Pig Ling, Poria, Zedoary, Agaricus, and Slippery Rock) was used by Zhang Zhongjing to treat urinary discomfort and sleeplessness, similar to the present-day urinary tract syndrome, and some patients with IgA nephropathy hematuria also have such symptoms and use Pig Ling Tang effectively. Huanglian Agaricus Tang (Huanglian, Scutellaria, Paeonia lactiflora, Chicken Zi Huang, Agaricus), also from Zhang Zhongjing’s Treatise on Typhoid, has the effect of nourishing Yin and dipping fire, and is mainly used to treat insomnia. Nowadays, it is mainly used for the treatment of hematuria in nephritis (including IgA nephropathy hematuria) and hypoproteinemia in nephrotic syndrome, but it is more effective for those with deficiency of yin and blood in Chinese medicine, especially for those with dry throat, irritable heart and insomnia. Gum is usually used to treat anemia because of its good blood tonic effect, but it should be used with caution in renal anemia because renal anemia is caused by renal insufficiency, and gum is rich in animal protein and has a high content of non-essential amino acids, and patients usually have nausea and poor appetite, so it is less used in renal anemia. For patients with renal insufficiency, it is not absolutely impossible to use Colla Corii Asini if clinically necessary, but the dosage should not be too high.
