Kidney stones can cause bladder stones if they fall into the bladder. Bladder stones do not usually cause painful symptoms because the volume of space in the bladder is large and the stones rarely irritate the mucous membrane on the surface. However, bladder stones tend to block the inner orifice of the urethra during the process of urination, which can cause urethral obstruction causing pain in the urethra and distension in the lower abdomen to occur. For this condition, a few patients can usually relieve the symptoms by changing their body position. Treatment requires timely removal of bladder stones, which can be done by cystoscopic lithotripsy for stone extraction. In the case of multiple bladder stones, the stones can be removed using traditional open surgery to relieve the pain and other symptoms caused by the stones.
