Does drinking soda with high uric acid help?

Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism and is mainly produced by the enzymatic decomposition of nucleic acids and other purine compounds from cellular metabolism and purines in food. The active ingredient of soda is sodium bicarbonate, which has the effect of alkalinizing the urine and increasing the pH of the patient’s urine, with a consequent increase in the solubility of uric acid, which helps the excretion of uric acid from the body. There are two main causes of high serum uric acid: increased uric acid production and decreased uric acid excretion, and sometimes both. Increased uric acid production: This includes both high purine dietary intake and increased metabolic production of endogenous purines. Food-induced uric acid production is proportional to the purine content of food, and purine-rich foods include animal liver, kidney, anchovies, etc. The increase of endogenous purine metabolism in the body is mainly related to the synthesis and decomposition of purine. Decreased uric acid excretion: About 2/3 of uric acid is excreted through the kidneys, and the remaining 1/3 is excreted through extrarenal pathways such as the intestinal tract and biliary tract. About 90% of patients with persistent hyperuricemia have defects in renal processing of uric acid and show reduced uric acid excretion, including reduced glomerular filtration rate, increased tubular reabsorption, reduced tubular secretion and uric acid crystalline deposits. Drinking soda can alkalize the urine, so that uric acid is not easy to gather in the urine to form crystals, which is conducive to the excretion of uric acid, and therefore has a certain effect of lowering uric acid. However, if you drink high concentrations of soda for a long time can lead to metabolic alkalosis and cause edema due to high sodium bicarbonate load. Therefore, patients with high uric acid can drink soda appropriately. It is generally recommended to drink more than 250 ml and not more than 500 ml daily, but you should not drink high concentration of soda for a long time, and you should not put your treatment on drinking soda, but use it as an auxiliary way while receiving regular treatment.
