Hepatocellular carcinoma, i.e. malignant tumor of liver, can be divided into two categories: primary and secondary. Primary liver malignant tumors originate from epithelial or mesenchymal tissues of the liver, and the former is called primary liver cancer, which is a highly prevalent and harmful malignant tumor in China; the latter is called sarcoma, which is less common compared with primary liver cancer. Secondary or metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma refers to the invasion of malignant tumors from multiple organs of the body to the liver. It is usually seen in liver metastasis from malignant tumors of stomach, biliary tract, pancreas, colorectum, ovary, uterus, lung, breast and other organs. What are the symptoms of liver cancer? 1. Pain in liver area More than half of the patients have pain in liver area as the first symptom, mostly persistent dull pain, stabbing pain or swelling pain. It is mainly due to the rapid growth of tumor, which increases the tension of liver envelope. If the cancer located at the top of the right lobe of liver involves the diaphragm, the pain may involve the back of the right shoulder. When necrosis and rupture of liver cancer nodules occur, it may cause intra-abdominal bleeding and acute abdominal symptoms such as peritoneal irritation signs. 2. Systemic and gastrointestinal symptoms mainly include weakness, emaciation, loss of appetite, abdominal distension and so on. Some patients may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhea and other symptoms. In the late stage, anemia, jaundice, ascites, lower limb edema, subcutaneous bleeding and cachexia may appear. 3.hepatomegaly Hepatomegaly is progressive, with hard texture, irregular edges and uneven surface in the form of large and small nodules or giant lumps. 4.Metastatic symptoms of hepatocellular carcinoma If hepatocellular carcinoma metastasizes in lung, bone or brain, it may produce corresponding symptoms. A few patients may have special manifestations such as hypoglycemia, erythrocytosis, hypercalcemia and hypercholesterolemia. Complications of primary liver cancer mainly include hepatic coma, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, cancer rupture and bleeding and secondary infection.
