Acne vulgaris is an inflammation of the sebaceous glands of the hair follicles caused by clogged pores. Typical lesions are: follicular mouth pimples (white head pimples for closed mouths manifest as white papules, black head pimples for open mouths, of which black head pimples can squeeze out fat plugs when pressure is applied), red papules, pustules, nodules, and in severe cases, abscesses, cysts, and scarring. Modern medicine believes that the disease is related to factors such as increased androgens and infection by Propionibacterium acnes. The onset of acne is related to the following factors: 1. Physical factors: Yang-heat or damp-heat is prevalent in people who are prone to acne. Dry mouth, dry stools, red tongue, yellow or yellow greasy tongue coating, and slippery pulse are common. 2.Environmental factors: Environmental pollution or uncleanliness, resulting in increased chances of facial infection. 3, dietary factors: long-term addiction to spicy, hot foods, such as chili peppers, pepper, Chinese onion, ginger, garlic, fried and fried foods, alcohol, etc., resulting in the accumulation of internal heat, internal heat of Yin deficiency or internal damp heat. 4, sleep factors: long-term insomnia, sleep deprivation, frequent night shifts, etc., can lead to Yang-heat prevalence. 5. Skin care: Frequent use of covering skin care products (such as foundation creams, etc.), which block pores. As can be seen from the above, there are many factors that lead to acne, and pore blockage and heat prevalence are the main pathological basis. Therefore, in addition to the therapeutic medications established according to TCM diagnosis, interventions in lifestyle behaviors are also very important in the treatment of acne. For example, when I treat acne clinically, I make sure to instruct patients to do the following four things: (1) Keep the face clean. Drink more water (more than 1500ml per day); (4) Don’t stay up late, go to bed before 24:00 every night, and ensure that you sleep for more than 6 hours. The above mentioned are the common clinical causes and treatments of acne. In fact, each patient, especially those who have been untreated for a long time, may have special influencing factors. Therefore, adequate communication between doctor and patient is very important to obtain good results.
