The current possible surgical risks of transoral lumpectomy for thyroid tumor resection include the following: 1. postoperative numbness of the mouth, lips and jaw area; 2. wound infection of the floor of the mouth; 3. diffusion of CO2 to hypercapnia in the neck; 4. intraoperative nerve injury, e.g., injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerve, injury to the superior laryngeal nerve, injury to the chin nerve; 5. intraoperative and postoperative bleeding; 6. parathyroid gland injury and postoperative hypocalcemia; 7. postoperative hypothyroidism.
