What should I do if I have pain in my thighs after sudden exercise?

If you have pain in your thigh after sudden exercise, if it is accompanied by local restriction of movement and swelling, you should suspect a muscle strain caused by violent exercise and need to brake the thigh area and seek medical attention promptly. Once a muscle strain has been identified, the RICE principle of rest and avoidance of lower limb activity should be followed.
Local cold compresses can be applied within 24 hours of the acute injury and hot compresses can be applied after 48 hours. Significant swelling should be applied with a functional bandage with pressure to promote disappearance of the swelling. Elevate the injured lower limb to return body fluids centripetally.
