“Do I have depression?” In our daily life, we often hear this phrase, which seems to be a joke or self-complaint, but it has somehow indicated that “depression” is quietly appearing around people, and some have even suffered from depression. So what is the difference between depression and depression?
Depression is a common mental illness. In clinical practice, the main characteristic is a low mood, which can be characterized by a lack of confidence in oneself, a sense of guilt towards others and other negative low self-esteem.
French psychiatrist Jean Delay distinguishes between depression and depression as follows: depression is a disease, a mental suffering similar to physical pain. It saps our energy, makes people lose their enthusiasm for life, live uninterestedly and wait for death to come.
Depression is a large family that includes seasonal depression, prenatal/postnatal depression, etc. It also manifests itself in a variety of ways, including neurosis, sentimentality, persistent pain, and grief. Depression is mostly related to genetic factors, psychosocial factors, personality traits, etc.
1, genetic factors: according to reports, the incidence of depression in patients, the incidence of disease in children will be significantly higher, which is related to long-term fear of social activities, silence, too sensitive to things and other factors, in the long run will certainly have an impact on the mood and personality of children.
2, psychosocial factors: such as the death of a loved one, loss of love, family breakdown, serious physical illness, learning or work difficulties, frustration, etc., especially under the premise that the individual coping methods are more deprived, will lead to more serious depression.
3, personality traits: and the patient’s personality characteristics before the disease is closely related, such as many patients show an introverted or withdrawn personality, compared with the normal group is more sentimental, pessimistic and overthinking, etc..
Depression is sudden and temporary, often accompanied by frustration and injury, and generally occurs after encountering specific life events, an unpleasant, boring and depressing internal experience, which is a normal emotional reaction inherent in people. Although it can feel uncomfortable, it does not last long and usually subsides and dissipates on its own within 2 weeks.
It is only when this depressed mood lasts for several months, usually at least three months and usually six months, that a doctor needs to diagnose a depressive illness.
To put it simply, depression, although related to mood, does not simply equate depressed mood with depression. That is, everyone can be depressed, but not everyone suffers from depression.
