Why are people easily depressed in winter?

  When the weather gets cold, there are more people who are depressed. A large proportion of these people suffer from seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a condition that occurs at the same time every year, usually starting in the fall and continuing into the winter, when the sun shines in the spring and their symptoms disappear.
