Colposcopy is generally recommended for patients who have a colposcopy within 3-7 days of menstrual cleansing. Since most colposcopy patients need to take a biopsy for further pathological examination, it is recommended that this be done within 3-7 days of menstruation when they are not having sex. However, special cases may be unrestricted, such as high-grade lesions of the cervix, highly suspicious precancerous lesions or cervical cancer. In addition, if the patient has persistent bleeding, no longer has a significant menstrual cycle, and there is a high suspicion of cervical cancer, the test may also be performed at any time. Patients should also be careful to avoid intercourse, vaginal irrigation and vaginal medication before colposcopy as this may affect the results. In addition, patients should avoid heavy physical labor after the examination, pay attention to rest, light diet and spicy stimulating food; if no biopsy is taken without cervical damage, intercourse is allowed the next day, but if a biopsy is taken for pathological testing, intercourse should be prohibited for 15 days.
