Bleeding stools with functional localised pain may be caused by haemorrhoids or anal fissures, which can be treated with oral herbal preparations to clear heat and cool the blood, or with topical application of haemorrhoid cream. The main cause of painful hemorrhoids or anal fissures is the excessive dryness of the stool.
Patients are also advised to take oral laxatives such as lactulose at the same time. Also, apply topical corkage, or salad oil, to the anus during defecation to reduce the irritation of the local mucosa.
