Gout is a group of diseases caused by disorders of purine metabolism. It is characterized clinically by hyperuricemia with recurrent episodes of gouty acute arthritis, gouty stone deposits, gouty stone chronic arthritis and joint deformities, and often involves the kidneys causing chronic interstitial nephritis and uric acid kidney stone formation. The disease can be divided into two categories: primary and secondary. The cause of primary disease is caused by a few enzyme defects, most of which are of unknown origin and are hereditary. Secondary cases can be caused by certain malignant tumors, kidney diseases and blood diseases.
