Gout is a crystal-associated arthropathy caused by monosodium urate deposition and is directly related to hyperuricemia due to disorders of purine metabolism and/or decreased uric acid excretion. So what should a gout patient be aware of when he or she has an attack? 1.Foods, alcohol or activities that have caused attacks should be avoided. 2.The affected joints should be raised and the affected part should be allowed to rest during the attack. 3.Forbid to eat food with high purine content. 4.Use anti-inflammatory painkillers. 5.Use ice packs on the affected area. 6.Avoid taking aspirin and other drugs. 7.Supply plenty of water to help uric acid out of the body, and also to avoid kidney stones caused by gout. 8.Control blood pressure. 9.It is not advisable to control weight by diet meal, so as to avoid cellular decomposition caused by fasting and release of uric acid.
