How long does it take for hpv virus infection in the mouth to become cancerous

The HPV virus infects the mouth and most people can heal on their own, and cancer is usually less common. HPV is the human papillomavirus, which is the causative agent of warts and is a common sexually transmitted disease. HPV infection in the oral cavity is usually found on the back of the tongue, lips, gums, cheeks, and palate, and may appear as a single or multiple small nodules, which may gradually increase in size or fuse, and may be normal or pale in color, with or without a tip. However, in the early stage of oral infection, the patient’s own immune system can clear some of the virus and achieve self-healing because the infection is short-lived and usually asymptomatic. For those who cannot heal on their own, topical antiviral treatment with interferon, cryotherapy, laser treatment or surgical excision are also available and usually have better results. Since HPV infection is easily recurring and sometimes requires multiple courses of treatment, patients must receive standardized treatment at regular hospitals to avoid re-infection and even aggravation of the disease.
