There is generally no need for rest after a cervical smear, let alone strict bed rest, and patients can avoid strenuous exercise. Cervical smears are performed by scraping the discharge from the cervical canal with a specially designed scraper to perform tests such as routine leukorrhea tests and cervical pre-cancer screening. It is normal to have a small amount of vaginal bleeding due to local irritation during scraping. However, if there is a lot of bleeding, you should visit the obstetrics and gynecology department to rule out any other diseases. Patients are not allowed to have intercourse, take a bath or swim for 1 week after cervical smear to avoid retrograde infection of bacteria or viruses, which may lead to aggravation of inflammation. In addition, it is recommended that women keep their vulva clean and dry after cervical smear, avoid strenuous exercise for two days, keep a calm state of mind and follow the doctor’s instructions to take medication on time and according to the dosage.
