The usefulness of anti-inflammatory drugs for swollen lymph nodes depends on the cause of swollen lymph nodes. If the inflammation of lymph nodes is caused by acute bacterial infection, anti-inflammatory drugs are useful, and the swollen lymph nodes can gradually subside when the inflammation is controlled, while anti-inflammatory drugs for swollen lymph nodes caused by other causes are ineffective. Other common clinical causes of swollen lymph nodes include acute viral infection, lymphatic tuberculosis, as well as malignant lymphoma, leukemia, acute stage of HIV infection, and metastatic tumors in lymph nodes. Therefore, if swollen lymph nodes are found, further examinations, such as blood routine, lymph node ultrasound, chest X-ray, etc., need to be done in conjunction with other clinical symptoms to clarify the cause of swollen lymph nodes, rather than blindly using antibiotics.
