Hypoxia due to low partial pressure of oxygen in the air is the basis of altitude sickness. The main measure to treat altitude sickness is to increase the partial pressure of oxygen in the inhaled air. Oxygen inhalation alone or simply raising the air pressure in the environment can increase the partial pressure of oxygen. However, the partial pressure of oxygen is the product of the pressure in the inhaled air and the oxygen concentration. Therefore, the most ideal method is to use hyperbaric oxygen (oxygen inhalation in a high pressure environment). Tibet is the highest altitude region in China, in the past, due to the fact that hyperbaric oxygen is not popular, the main use of pure oxygen to prevent and treat plateau disease, although the effect is certain, but not ideal, later appeared without oxygen air pressurized cabin, when people have plateau reaction, let the patient sleep in the air pressurized cabin also produced some effect. However, there are still some patients with symptoms of discomfort. These patients with the condition returned to the mainland to the hospital with hyperbaric oxygen for hyperbaric oxygen treatment to solve the problem. The effect of hyperbaric oxygen on the prevention and treatment of altitude sickness is significantly higher than that of simple oxygen inhalation or simple environmental pressurization. Because hyperbaric oxygen therapy can timely and effectively increase the partial pressure of alveolar oxygen, so that the physical dissolved oxygen concentration in the blood increases more than 14 times, so that the aerobic metabolism of brain tissue increases; at the same time, its vasoconstriction effect can reduce the compression of capillaries by cerebral edema, reduce intracranial pressure, interrupt the vicious cycle of cerebral hypoxia – cerebral edema – increased intracranial pressure – coma – cerebral hypoxia, and at the same time, due to the expansion of the vertebrobasilar artery, activating the reticular upward system, thus improving a series of hypoxic symptoms of the patient as soon as possible and promoting the patient’s awakening. Hyperbaric oxygen can also make the pulmonary edema disappear and improve the ventilation function of the lungs, thus correcting the hypoxic state of the heart muscle and other vital organs and preventing death due to pulmonary edema. Therefore, we suggest that people who travel into the plateau area should have hyperbaric oxygen therapy before entering the plateau area, so that the oxygen storage capacity of the body can be increased and the oxygen storage capacity of the body can be used to cope with the plateau reaction, while people who have made hyperbaric oxygen have an increased ability to adapt to large fluctuations in blood oxygen. If plateau disease occurs, you should go to the medical unit with the condition of hyperbaric oxygen treatment in time, and leave the plateau area as soon as possible, and continue the hyperbaric oxygen treatment after returning to the local area. More importantly, hyperbaric oxygen chambers should be equipped in the plateau area as much as possible. Once plateau reaction occurs, hyperbaric oxygen therapy should be administered as soon as possible. Inefficient treatment methods such as pure oxygen inhalation or simply using portable air pressurization chamber are the only way out in the absence of hyperbaric oxygen. Hyperbaric oxygen is the ideal treatment method.
