Is Xia Ku Cao Oral Liquid effective for thyroid nodules

Xia Ku Cao Oral Liquid is not effective for thyroid nodules and patients with thyroid nodules are not recommended to take any medication for treatment. Usually, thyroid nodules are characterized first. If the nodule is benign, medication is usually not considered and surgery is not considered, unless the nodule is very large and is compressing the trachea or esophagus, or if it seriously affects the patient’s aesthetics, then surgical intervention is considered. In the case of malignant nodules, surgery is considered. The nature of the nodule is determined preoperatively based on ultrasound and function of the nodule. If the thyroid nodule is very fast growing, if the nodule is very hard, if there is gravelly calcification, if the nodule has abundant blood flow, if the nodule has unclear borders, if the nodule has an aspect ratio of >1, if there are adhesions to the surrounding soft tissues such as the anterior cervical band, if there are multiple enlarged lymph nodes outside the thyroid nodule, and especially if there is gravelly calcification inside the nodule, then the patient is considered to be at risk for malignant thyroid nodules. The nodules should also be evaluated in the context of the patient’s family history and any history of exposure to ionizing radiation.
