How to properly avoid hormone dependent dermatitis?

What is hormone dependent dermatitis? It is an inflammatory skin disease that occurs when the local skin becomes dependent on hormones after long-term topical application of glucocorticoids. It manifests as skin atrophy, capillary dilation, pigmentation disorders, atrophic lines, hirsutism, acne and rosacea-like rash. Patients feel burning, itching and pain, which is aggravated by heat and reduced by cold. After discontinuing hormones, the original symptoms of the skin are significantly aggravated. When topical hormones are reapplied, the above symptoms or signs quickly subside, and when the medication is discontinued again, it rapidly reappears and is more intense than before, and is difficult to be controlled by general medication. What are the circumstances under which hormone dependent dermatitis can occur? The etiology of the occurrence is undoubtedly the improper use of topical hormones, which induces patients to overuse hormones. It includes: 1. wrong selection of indications; 2. improper selection of topical hormone varieties; 3. excessive use of topical hormones; 4. confusion in the beauty market and the indiscriminate use of beauty cosmetics in several aspects. Because corticosteroids have the anti-allergic effect of inhibiting immune response, they can reduce local congestion and edema after topical application, so that the degree of itching is reduced and the inflammatory reaction of certain skin damage is temporarily relieved and subdued, but because patients are often confused by this illusion in clinical treatment, coupled with the misleading advertisement and lack of understanding of the application scope and adverse reactions of corticosteroids, and long-term abuse leading to adverse consequences. A few people also use corticosteroids instead of skin creams to apply on the face and use them on the normal face for a long time, which feels good at first and makes the skin tender and white, but over time it will produce dependent dermatitis. Some patients also misunderstand the “anti-inflammatory” effect of corticosteroids as the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect of antibiotics and repeatedly misuse them for a long time. In the last decade or so, with the rapid development of the beauty industry and the fierce competition of beauty salons, some beauty salons, in order to attract consumers, mix hormones into skin rejuvenation and whitening cosmetics to deceive consumers, so that many consumers who are eager for beauty and skin care become dependent on their so-called “special effects of skin rejuvenation and whitening cosmetics” after long-term application, resulting in hormone-dependent dermatitis. Why does hormone dependent dermatitis occur? The main reason for the clinical symptoms of hormone-dependent dermatitis is that capillaries are sensitive to steroid hormones, and short-term application can cause vasoconstriction, while long-term use can cause atrophy and thinning of endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells and elastic fibers, resulting in loss of elasticity and relaxation, making capillaries that were not clearly visible thick and obvious, leading to vasodilation and more serious itching, which is a kind of dependence of skin Nerve endings to a hormone dependence phenomenon. Under the action of hormones, sebaceous gland cells produce atrophy, sebum secretion decreases, and the skin becomes dry, allergy-prone, and hairy.
