Prevalence of osteoporosis

  Osteoporosis is a systemic bone disease with increased bone fragility and increased risk of fracture due to reduced bone mass, decreased bone quality, and destruction of bone tissue microstructure. The occurrence of osteoporosis is like the beams of a house; the exterior is still there, but the inside has been hollowed out by termites and therefore loses its firm support.  A report by the International Osteoporosis Foundation shows that osteoporosis occurs in 1/3 of women and 1/5 of men over the age of 50. Osteoporosis is often not taken seriously in its early stages, and patients do not show symptoms until the disease is more serious, so osteoporosis is called the “quiet epidemic”!  The prevalence of osteoporosis includes: 1. age, the older the age, the higher the incidence; 2. gender, women have a higher prevalence than men; 3. menopause, women will experience rapid bone loss after menopause; 4. bad habits, smoking, drinking alcohol, drinking too much coffee, etc. can lead to osteoporosis; 5. family history, parents have had fractures and osteoporosis; 6. drugs, some drugs can lead to osteoporosis.  The most common and at the same time the most serious complication of osteoporosis is fragility fracture, the most common is lumbar spine and hip fracture. Therefore, osteoporosis patients should pay attention to the prevention of fragility fractures while regular treatment of osteoporosis. In the unfortunate event of an osteoporotic fracture, you should go to the hospital as soon as possible to receive professional orthopedic treatment to prevent delaying the condition.
