After craniotomy, the risk period is usually over in about 1 week, but the exact time required varies from person to person and from condition to condition. If the patient does not have complications such as blood clots in the brain pressing on the nerves or pressing on the blood vessels after the surgery, the patient is generally not affected and can pass the danger period in about 1 week. If the patient develops cerebral edema after craniotomy, the condition is more dangerous and usually takes about 2 weeks to pass the danger period. If the patient also has a hematologic disorder, the time to pass the risk period is relatively longer because the patient is not healing and bleeding is likely to occur. In addition, if the patient is unable to move after surgery, it is important to keep the limbs moving and help them move to prevent deep vein thrombosis, and in the case of unconscious patients, to prevent decubitus ulcers.
