Obese people are more likely to suffer from depression, the dangers of obesity should not be underestimated

In most people’s impression, obese people’s personality label are peaceful, optimistic and helpful, like the familiar “Maitreya Buddha” image, as well as the idiom “broad-minded and fat”, is a good proof. However, I do not know, in today’s era of thin for the beauty, obese people are more likely to produce low self-esteem, depression and other psychological problems. A new study released by the University of Exeter on the 13th said that if you are overweight, even if it does not cause other health problems, it may also lead to depression. Using genetic research methods, researchers analyzed data from more than 48,000 depressed patients in the UK Biomedical Library, and nearly 300,000 additional control group people, aiming to demonstrate the relationship between higher body mass index (BMI) and depression. The report was published in the British International Journal of Epidemiology. The study found that a higher body mass index, whether or not it causes other health problems because of obesity, is more likely to lead to depression, and that this phenomenon affects women more. In this regard, experts said, “The current global obesity epidemic is very worrying and it is estimated that, in addition to the economic depression that will affect the global economy, obesity and other related diseases, cause trillions of dollars of losses to the global community every year. Different studies have shown that being overweight not only increases the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease, it can also lead to depression.” Therefore, society must pay attention to the mental health problems of obese people, and we also hope that people will be more tolerant and understanding towards them.
