What are the risks of varicocele surgery in children? What are the possible complications?

There are certain risks associated with surgery, but overall, the probability of these risks is still very low. 1. First of all, there are anesthesia accidents, which may cause respiratory and cardiac arrest in serious cases. The anesthesiologist will also talk about the anesthesia risk again before the surgery. In fact, the possibility of anesthesia accidents is very small, especially in large hospitals, hospitals with many surgeries, less than one in a thousand, but it is still possible to happen, pay attention to the following points: fasting before anesthesia is very important, fasting (including water) 6-8 hours before surgery, so that the stomach is basically empty, not easy to vomit, accidental aspiration, surgery can not be in the case of cough, runny nose, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, etc. to do surgery. The anesthesiologist will ask relevant questions before the anesthesia talk, can not hide! 2.Injury to surrounding tissues during surgery, such as injury to the vas deferens, which affects sexual and reproductive functions in adulthood; injury to the bladder and other intra-abdominal organs, which requires bladder repair; injury to large blood vessels causing bleeding. Of course, the possibility of accidental injury is still relatively small. 3.The probability of ipsilateral scrotal syringomyelia after surgery is still relatively low, and if syringomyelia occurs, surgery for syringomyelia may be required. 4.Surgical incision infection and septicemia. We use cosmetic stitches, cosmetic sutures, and generally do not remove the stitches without changing the medication, very few children may have redness, infection and pus in the incision, some babies are sensitive to sutures and may have thread reactions (baby specific), resulting in repeated infections and pus, Dr. Huang has seen a child with four infections and pus due to thread reactions, but the incision healed well in the end. Overall, surgical incision infection is rare. 5.A post-operative recurrence of varicocele requires reoperation, which is usually a reopening of the ligated and blocked vessels, and the probability of occurrence is generally around 1%. 6. Some children may still have testicles that fail to develop or slowly atrophy, affecting reproductive function (many adults just come to the doctor for infertility and find this problem). The testicles themselves are injured to varying degrees in varicocele, and in a few severe cases, testicular atrophy may occur, which explains the need for early surgery for varicocele. 7.Injury to intra-abdominal organs or important blood vessels during surgery leads to inability to complete laparoscopic surgery and thus to intermediate open surgery; if there is inability to complete laparoscopically, laparoscopic surgery is cancelled and changed to open. 8.Laparoscopic complications such as abdominal pain and subcutaneous emphysema caused by string gas after surgery, and rare complications of laparoscopy such as air embolism. 9, other unexpected accidental situations that could not be predicted before surgery. The individual difference of each child is great.
