Scrotal dampness, known as yin sweat in Chinese medicine, is a condition in which the external genitalia and its surrounding area (including the inner thighs near the femoral pubic area) often sweat a lot and smell bad. The yin sweat tends to appear after the age of 50, but in recent years there have been a number of young and middle-aged men who have visited the clinic. Modern medicine does not include this disease in the category of diseases, but Chinese medicine has long recorded this disease. The medical forest rope ink sweat: “Yin sweat is said to be to the yin place, or the two legs hold in, walking moving labor, sweating fishy.” Yin sweat was first recorded in “Wu Wei Han Dynasty Medical Bulletin”, and was listed as the fourth of the seven injuries in men, and was thought to be caused by internal kidney deficiency, and was treated with kidney tonics such as hyssop, sanguinaria, dulcimer, dogwood, cistanches, and tianxiong. It was also listed as one of the seven injuries in men in the Treatise on the Origin of Diseases and the Medical Journal, and the pathology was a deficiency of kidney energy. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, this disease was excluded from the “seven injuries” and was listed in the “sweat department” or in the “miscellaneous diseases”, and there was a more comprehensive development in the understanding of the etiology and treatment. Zhang’s Medical General Khan: “Yin sweat, sweat in the yin, belongs to the lower jiao damp heat”, “Men with cold external kidneys, two thighs pivot yin sweat, front yin impotence, scrotum damp itch and shame, Chai Hu Sheng Damp Tang.” It is also said that “Yin impotence and weakness and two pills cold, Yin sweat like water, after urinating there are remaining drops of shame, coccyx buttocks and front Yin cold, vicious cold but like heat, knees also cold, this liver meridian damp-heat, appropriate gentian diarrhea liver soup, Chai Hu Sheng Damp Tang selection.” The medical standard six to think: “Yin sweat Yin odor, all lower jiao damp heat, wine face thick taste excessive and so on.” It can be seen that the ancients believed that yin sweat is caused by damp heat or kidney yang deficiency, and the treatment is to clear heat and remove dampness or warm yang to regulate sweat. Yin sweat is mostly caused by damp-heat injury and Yang deficiency, and is closely related to the two meridians of the liver and kidney. The liver drains, the kidney consolidates, the liver by damp-heat injection, heat is loose couples, the sweat is too much; or the kidney’s yang deficit, the muscle coup loss of regulating, the sweat leaks out, and finally sweat is too much. To treat yin sweat, we should start with the liver and kidney. The treatment is based on the general principle of removing dampness and astringing sweat. Clinically, it is mostly manifested by the actual evidence of damp-heat infusion and the deficiency of kidney yang deficiency, therefore, the treatment should be administered according to the symptoms, supplemented by the method of clearing heat or benefiting kidney yang. In addition, the treatment should be coordinated with internal and external. In life, we should regulate our emotions, avoid depression and anger to hurt the liver, wash diligently, keep the pubic area clean and dry, avoid eating spicy and thick flavors, strengthen physical exercise, and have moderate intercourse. With the internal and external use of Chinese herbs, most patients can get results in a short time, while some patients need longer treatment.
