Sudden psychosis is difficult to cure on its own. As psychosis involves a variety of mental illnesses, even those caused by external factors such as socially stressful events and personal trauma may involve functional changes in the brain, one should not hope for a self-cure and medication and psychological treatment are required. If treatment is not effective, treatments such as electroconvulsive therapy and transcranial magnetic stimulation should even be considered.
