Precocious puberty in children is defined as an early age of initial pubertal development. The appearance of breast development before the age of 8 in girls and the appearance of secondary sexual characteristics before the age of 9 in boys is considered precocious puberty. There are two main categories of causes of precocious puberty. The first category is caused by pathological factors such as genetic and central nervous abnormalities, such as idiopathic precocious puberty, intracranial tumors, and primary hypothyroidism. However, judging from the current hospital outpatient volume, the main causes of precocious puberty in children are non-disease causes. The first reason is that, with the improvement of living standard, children’s growth and development are accelerated, children and adolescents are generally taller than the previous generation, and there is a tendency of early sexual development and sexual maturity. According to the normal puberty development in the past, breast development starts at the age of 12 to 13 and the first menstruation occurs mostly at the age of 15 to 16, while the current generation of girls has breast development at the age of 10 and the first menstruation at the age of 12 to 13. The second reason is the intake of food containing sex hormones or taking birth control pills by mistake. In recent years, there are various health products and supplements on the market, and many parents are willing to spend money to buy them for their children to increase their nutrition, strengthen their body and promote their height. It has been confirmed that ginseng, royal jelly, pollen, chicken embryo, silkworm chrysalis, height-enhancing elements, etc. are more sex hormones, and even gonadotropin-like substances. The third reason is also an important reason, namely environmental pollution. In recent years, a large number of scholars at home and abroad have reported that a series of environmental hormone-like pollutants have been produced in nature due to the discharge of harmful substances and their decomposing substances into the environment from detergents, pesticides and plastic industry manufacturing plants. In addition, organochlorine pesticides are rarely used now, but they were released in large quantities on farmland in the past, and their content in soil, water and plants is still high today. These pollutants have been found to have estrogen-like activity after degrading to a certain extent in nature. The fourth reason: the stimulation of media information. Television, movies, newspapers and other sex-related content is significantly more than before, and there are many “inappropriate for children” love scenes in audio-visual products, which will stimulate children’s psychology prematurely when they are exposed to more, and eventually make them mature sexually early. Experts believe that the hormones and hormone-like substances that enter the body from food disrupt the physiological balance, which can be the direct cause of pseudo-precocious puberty. Environmental hormone-like pollutants, on the other hand, become an important contributing factor to its onset, which may be the main factor in the current marked increase in the onset of precocious puberty in children.
