What are the clinical manifestations of geriatric depression?

The clinical manifestations of geriatric depression are often less typical, with symptoms characterized by: 1) pessimism, multiple physical discomfort; 2) sleep disturbances, insomnia or early awakening; 3) poor appetite; 4) lack of motivation and energy; 5) loss of interest and pleasure; 6) self-blame and guilt, negative thoughts of death; 7) weight loss. If the clinician does not recognize this, the treatment will not be effective and these symptoms will become stubborn “difficult”. The treatment of geriatric depression should be done in a regular specialized hospital and is never as simple as taking antidepressants. Psychological treatment is not something that can be mastered overnight and requires specialized expertise, which is why the efficacy of taking the same medication for depression is not the same in a specialist hospital and a general hospital.
