How long does it take for a pneumothorax to heal?

Pneumothorax heals in about 1 week. If the amount of pneumothorax is relatively small, less than 30%, the pneumothorax can be treated conservatively, and after rest and oxygenation, the pneumothorax will be completely absorbed in about 1 week. If the amount of pneumothorax is greater than 30%, closed chest drainage is needed for treatment. 2-3 days after the placement of closed chest drainage tube, the pneumothorax will be cured, and the patient can be discharged 2-3 days after the tube is removed. In pneumothorax with pneumomediastinum, the patient is discharged after thoracoscopic resection of pneumomediastinum and about 1 week after pleural fixation. Therefore, pneumothorax can be cured in about 1 week regardless of which approach is used.
