If the chalazion is relatively small and confined, it can be treated with medication first. The more commonly used medications are ofloxacin eye drops and ofloxacin eye ointment. During the daytime, you can use oxyfloxacin eye drops about 5-6 times a day, and apply oxyfloxacin eye ointment before going to bed. Apply hot compresses 1-2 or 2-3 times a day for 10 minutes each time. The temperature of the hot compress should not be too high to avoid burning the skin, and the temperature should not be too low, so that the meaning of the hot compress is lost. If the chalazion is relatively large or inflamed and infected, medication is usually ineffective and surgical treatment is an option. Surgery for chalazion is also a minor outpatient procedure, which takes a relatively short time, about ten minutes, and is continued with oxyfloxacin-type medication after surgery.
