Chalazion regression In clinical workup chalazion is a common eyelid disorder, and infants and children often come to the ophthalmology office frequently because of chalazion discomfort and especially unwillingness to operate under general anesthesia. A chalazion, commonly known as a chalazion, is a sterile chronic granulomatous inflammation of the chalazion gland specifically. The lid is a hard, cartilage-like fibrous tissue of the upper and lower eyelids that serves as the pillar of the eyelid, which harbors the lid gland, the largest sebaceous gland in the body, which secretes oil through a duct opening in the lid margin and participates in the composition of the tear film to prevent dry eyes. Causes: It may be due to chronic conjunctivitis or blepharitis resulting in obstruction of the lid gland ducts and retention of secretions in the lid gland producing stimulation to form chronic inflammatory granulomas. Symptoms: 1. It can occur in anyone at any age, but is more common in children and may be related to the high secretion function of the lid gland or to the imperfect development of the gland and its ductal openings, which can easily become obstructed. They are usually found incidentally, in one or both eyes, above or below or above or below, single or multiple, with no adhesions to the skin and no painful round hard nodules, and their corresponding lid conjunctival surface appears purple-red or purple-blue or gray-red. The development of cysts changes: small cysts can be self-absorbing; most remain unchanged for a long time; some grow gradually and become softer in texture; large cysts self-extrude from the lid conjunctival surface and rupture to exclude gelatinous contents, leaving mostly granulomatous polyps; they can also exfoliate from the skin surface or lid margin to present a reddish bulge or rupture to form granulation tissue; secondary infections form internal mydriasis; in the elderly, attention is paid to adenocarcinoma of the lid. Treatment: Smaller cysts 1. Hot compresses. 2.1% white mercury eye ointment. 3.Inject 0.1 ml of dexamethasone into the cyst. Larger cysts 4.scrape and remove. 5.Chinese herbal medicine to dissolve the firm Er Chen Tang, Huang Lian Wen Biao Tang, etc. 6.Freezing or excision of granuloma. 7.Eating lightly and avoiding spicy food.
