Clinical value of preoperative dual interventional embolization of nasopharyngeal angiofibroma

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical value of dual interventional embolization in the treatment of nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. METHODS: Seven patients with nasopharyngeal angiofibroma underwent preoperative DSA imaging, and six of them were mainly supplied by the maxillary artery and the branches of the internal carotid artery, and were treated with dual interventional embolization, i.e., direct embolization within the local puncture tumor + embolization of the donor artery; the other case was only supplied by the maxillary artery, so only embolization of the donor artery was performed. Results: All lesions were significantly reduced in the post-embolization imaging. CONCLUSION: Dual interventional embolization can be used as a necessary preoperative adjuvant treatment for nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. It can significantly reduce intraoperative bleeding and facilitate complete resection of the tumor.
