In recent years, with the improvement of people’s living standard, the number of patients with gout and hyperuricemia is gradually increasing, and the age of onset is also gradually getting younger, the youngest gout patient I saw in the clinic was only 16 years old. If not controlled, gout can not only cause joint pain and joint destruction, but also lead to kidney and cardiovascular system complications, so regular and effective use of uric acid-lowering drugs to control blood uric acid at a relatively low level is the key to gout treatment. In the clinic, many patients ask what they can’t eat and what they can eat. Some patients control their diet too strictly, which leads to malnutrition, so here we introduce how to arrange the diet reasonably. According to the amount of purine in food, food is divided into 3 categories: Category 1: food with high purine content, 100-1000mg of purine per 100g of food, such as liver, kidney, heart, brain, pancreas and other animal organs; meat pies, broth; carp, mackerel, fish eggs, shrimp, oysters, sardines, etc.; goose, partridge, and yeast. Category 2: Foods containing moderate amounts of purines, 90-100 mg of purines per 100 g of food, such as beef, pork and lamb; spinach, peas, mushrooms, dried beans, lentils, asparagus, peanuts, etc. Category 3: Foods containing trace amounts of purines, such as milk, eggs, refined white flour, rice, sugar, coffee, cocoa, and vegetables and fruits other than those listed in category 2. Acute phase: Foods with high purine content should be strictly limited to avoid excessive intake of exogenous purine. Choose food group 3, milk and eggs as the main source of high quality protein in the diet, and refined white flour and rice as the main source of calories. Choose vegetables and fruits with low purine content and limit the amount of fat. In remission: Give a normal balanced diet to maintain ideal body weight and normal blood uric acid level. As protein intake can accelerate the synthesis of uric acid in gout patients, the daily intake should not exceed 1g/kg. avoid category 1 foods, choose category 3 foods in a limited amount, maintain ideal body weight, avoid weight gain, and adhere to the limit of fat for a long time.
