What to look for in unilateral tinnitus

Unilateral tinnitus should generally be alerted to the possibility of cerumen impaction, neurogenic tinnitus, and Meniere’s disease. 1. Cerumen impaction: Cerumen blockage due to the presence of earwax in the external auditory canal, and conductive tinnitus when the cerumen is close to the eardrum. 2. Neurogenic tinnitus: patients show different degrees of abnormal sound sensation in the ear, and the lesions can be in the cochlea, auditory nerve and auditory center, causing unilateral tinnitus. 3. Meniere’s disease: unilateral tinnitus may be caused by Meniere’s disease, the main manifestation of episodes of aggravation, while the intermittent period to reduce, usually unilateral, fluctuating hearing loss.
