Is umbilical dilatation during pregnancy a common condition

Umbilical bulge during pregnancy is a relatively common condition and is a congenital malformation of the abdominal wall development. During the 6 to 10 weeks of pregnancy when the embryo is forming, the yolk sac exerts traction on the midgut, pulling the fetal intestines and visceral organs into the umbilical cord, resulting in an increase in the volume of the abdominal cavity. By the 12th week of pregnancy the midgut and visceral organs retract into the abdominal cavity, when the midgut completes its rotation and forms an umbilical ring in the confluence zone of the abdominal wall, the fetus will have an umbilical dilatation, and this is also a relatively common disorder in clinical practice. Umbilical dilatation during pregnancy belongs to congenital abdominal wall anomalies, which can be detected by ultrasonography after the 12th week of pregnancy, and the examination is simple umbilical dilatation without the combination of other anomalies, other chromosomal abnormalities can continue pregnancy. If the chromosomal abnormality is shown and combined with other malformations, it is not recommended to continue the pregnancy. It is important to have a good pregnancy checkup and to deal with any abnormalities in a timely manner.
