Anemia also predisposes to gout

A U.S. cohort study that included a total of 15,791 subjects showed a total of 271 gout attacks during a 9-year follow-up period in which patients with anemia had an approximately 1-fold increased risk of gout occurrence independent of other known risk factors, confounders (gender, race, body mass index, estimated glomerular filtration rate, alcohol consumption) and clinical risk factors (coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, congestive heart failure, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, diuretic use, blood urate levels).
