Wrist pain is not necessarily tendonitis, but can also be caused by inflammation, trauma, connective tissue disease and other factors. Tenosynovitis is an inflammatory reaction of the tendon sheath that manifests as localised pain in the wrist, mostly caused by repetitive movements performed over a long period of time.
Patients with early symptoms of wrist pain can apply ice on their own to improve the surrounding oedema and then seek medical attention. Treatment of tenosynovitis is symptomatic and includes braking, icing and local closure, with surgical treatment if necessary.
