It has been just one week since the ringing of the Year of the Monkey. When I was organizing my past articles and medical books, several faces of patients who faced the cancer with tenacity and optimism on the road of fighting against tumors and made the cancer retreat with fear. The most impressive one is Mr. He, who suffered from prostate tumor. In the second half of 2005, I started to serve with my mentor, Prof. Ling Changquan, in the TCM clinic by copying prescriptions, and Mr. He often visited our clinic. After studying his past medical history, we learned that Mr. He had been taking Chinese medicine for tumor treatment for more than 3 years after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer with multiple metastases, and all the indicators were good after the review. Mr. He is a retired employee, and after his condition went into remission, he showed great enthusiasm for TCM and took up the role of TCM anti-tumor propagandist, and joined the team to volunteer to guide TCM outpatients and to teach them about diet, psychology and other self-cancer experience. With his own personal experience in fighting tumors, he inspires cancer patients around him to re-establish their hope in life and stimulate their fighting spirit against cancer. I remember that he personally contacted the Shanghai Cancer Club and invited Sister Su and me to give a lecture to cancer patients in the club to educate them about Chinese medicine and anti-tumor. In May 2012, Mr. He is still living a healthy and happy life and wrote to thank Master Ling. So far, he has been on the road of fighting cancer for more than ten years and has written his own miracle. Mr. He was first seen on December 12, 2000. The patient was hospitalized in our urological department for one year with hematuria, and was admitted to the hospital for rectal examination of the prostate with about II degree hyperplasia, hard texture, disappearance of the central sulcus, and a nodule in the right lobe. On November 1, 2000, he underwent TURP+TUVP (transurethral resection of the prostate + transurethral vaporization of the prostate) and bilateral orchiectomy in the Department of Urology of our hospital. After the operation, he came to Dr. Ling’s clinic for Chinese medicine treatment in January. The patient’s throat is itchy at night, with dry cough, occasional chest pain, a flat stomach, little sleep at night, a heavy taste of urine, a regulated bowel movement, a light tongue with white greasy coating, and a stringent pulse. TCM diagnosis: cancerous toxin running away, depletion of lung yin and damp heat in the bladder. The treatment is to nourish Yin and clear heat, together with anti-cancer and anti-toxicity. Prescription: Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, Salviae Miltiorrhiza, Radix Zeleniae, Poriae Bark, Mai Men Dong, Shi Mian Dian Dian, Ginseng, Coix Coix Seeds, Mucuna Pruriens, Plantago Ovata, Jiao San Xian. Take a decoction in the usual way. At the same time, take oral liquid for nourishing Yin and clearing lung. Follow-up: December 19, 2000. Still complained of left-sided waist, flatness, little sleep at night, thin stool, 4-5 times/d, pale white tongue, white smooth coating, string pulse. The diagnosis is a deficiency of Qi and blood in the heart and spleen with deficiency of liver and kidney. The treatment is to strengthen the spleen, nourish the blood and nourish the heart, nourish the liver and kidney, and fight cancer and kill toxins. Third consultation: February 23, 2001. He has been taking herbal medicine for more than 2 months with the addition and reduction of the previous prescription. Present symptoms: cough with a small amount of blood in the sputum, loose stools, 4-5 times/d, urine is fine, light red tongue, yellow thin coating, string pulse. The diagnosis belongs to deficiency of qi and blood, and the cancer toxin is running inside. Treatment is to benefit Qi and nourish Blood, to fight cancer and kill toxin. The patient was treated with the following herbs: 60g of roasted astragalus, 10g of loofah, 15g of papaya, 10-15g of wei ling xian, 30g of psyllium, 12g of zedoary, and 15g of dried toad skin for pain. After the patient persisted in taking Chinese medicine for 33 months, all indicators of laboratory examination were normal, B ultrasound (July 10, 2003) showed: fatty liver, the rest was not abnormal. Chest X-ray: nodular lesions in the right upper lung field, considered old lesions. The patient was eating and sleeping well, taking half a catty of yellow wine daily and jogging 3000 meters, and became a normal person. After regular follow-up, he has survived for more than 10 years.
