Principles of IgA nephropathy management

  IgA nephropathy is a progressive disease, only 5-30% of IgA nephropathy patients with abnormal urinalysis can be completely remitted, most of the patients are progressive, about 20% of every 10 years after the beginning of the disease to end-stage renal disease. IgA nephropathy is the primary cause of end-stage renal disease in China. risk factors for the progression of IgA nephropathy are mainly glomerulosclerosis, hypertension, large amount of proteinuria and renal hypofunction.  The principles of management of IgA nephropathy are: 1) prevention and control of infection; 2) control of blood pressure; 3) reduction of proteinuria; 4) protection of renal function; 5) avoidance of exertion, dehydration and nephrotoxic drugs; 6) regular review.  Treatment includes: ACEI, ARB, hormones and immunosuppressants, anti-platelet aggregation drugs, anticoagulation, Chinese medicine and tonsil removal.
